Day 4, Worship Goddess Kushmanda For Intellect and Strength

Chaturthi or the fourth day of Navratri belongs to the goddess Kushmanda. The Sanskrit name Kushmanda is derived from three words – ‘Ku’ – small/little, ‘Ushma’ – warmth/energy, ‘Anda’ – egg, which means the creator of the universe. Riding a lioness this avatar of Goddess Parvati emanates a solar-like aura and bestows her devotees with health, wealth, and strength.

Goddess Kushmanda has 8 arms carrying Chakra (a weapon like discus), sword, Gada (mace), bow, arrow, Amrit Kalash (jar of the elixir of life), Kamandal (stoup), and lotus. Due to her 8 arms, she is also known as Ashtabhuja Devi.

Colour & Offering:

Royale Blue, the colour of panache, elegance, richness and tranquillity is dedicated to goddess Kushmanda; wear royal blue colour clothes and offer Malpua to goddess Kushmanda to improve your intellect and decision-making ability.

Goddess Kushmanda Governing Planet and Direction

Goddess Kushmanda represents the planet Sun – the vital force, and owner of the East direction of the house. Worshipping Goddess Kushmanda may prove beneficial in overcoming any harmful effect on the Sun and Vastu defects of East direction viz. poor health, loss of enthusiasm, low vitality, poor education, and government-related matters.

Chant these mantras to seek Kushmanda’s blessings:

    Om Devi Kushmandayai Namah॥

Goddess Kushmanda Aarti
